Lilies of the Field Music began with a simple idea: to share what has been given. It is precisely what each of us is called to do: to share the particular gift, talent, ability, or personal quality that God has given to us. In this way we enrich the lives of others and the world. From my formative years till now, music has been an integral part of my life and work. As Liam Clancy (of Clancy Brothers fame) once said: "Music is the soul of the world wrapped in sound." My world has been wrapped in sound, and my soul is all the better for it. For music speaks to the soul, it animates, inspires, empowers (e.g. The African American Spirituals). It comforts the weary and soothes the troubled mind. Music is universal and touches the heart. Thus, it is my sincere hope that the music here will touch your heart, and in some small measure, enrich your life. Thank you for visiting!

At Lilies of the Field Music our purpose is to craft songs that resonate, uplift, and honor the human spirit in its varied manifestations: the serious, the silly, the soulful; all that is authentically human! As an aid to Christian liturgy, we hope to inspire worship in spirit and truth and so offer fitting praise to God who, in Jesus, humbled himself to share our humanity

This piece celebrates the American spirit and the values that live at the heart of the American Dream: freedom, justice, equality, tolerance, etc., in the melting pot that is America. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the prophetic documents and figures whose words have shaped our history as a people and who continually call us to "live out the content of our creed" in greater measure. America, Your Spirit Lives, is a richly textured instrumental piece for large ensemble. A distinct feature of the work, particularly apt for America's 250th anniversary, allows room for excerpts from key texts and inspiring speeches to be read aloud during sections B and D prior to a trumpet and trombone lead followed by a crescendo to a rousing finish. This piece works well in a concert setting where the American ethos is celebrated and reflection on our core principles and values is desired. It can also function as an aid to education highlighting key themes and periods in our history, depending on the excerpt(s) chosen, perhaps with students assuming the roles of great Americans. The excerpt(s) can then be used as a springboard into deeper discussion of the context surrounding the speech, the principles/values at stake, and how the words and witness of our forbearers can, yet today, inspire and guide us toward a more perfect union.
